Registered Nurse (RN) - General Care Unit (Med/Surg) - Bronson South Haven

Location: Bronson South Haven (BSH)
Shift: Full-Time, 12-Hour Night Shift (36 Hours per Week)

Role Summary

As an RN in the General Care Unit (Med/Surg) at Bronson, you will manage patient care from admission through discharge, following established policies, procedures, and Michigan Public Health Code guidelines. Key responsibilities include:

  • Using the nursing process (assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation) to deliver quality care
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care
  • Documenting and communicating patient responses and care needs each shift
  • Providing direct care, delegating tasks appropriately, and ensuring safety
  • Adapting to diverse patient needs and handling various equipment

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s preferred (must obtain within 8 years if hired without)
  • Licensure: Active RN license in Michigan
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at core orientation
    • Other certifications may be required, depending on the unit

Additional certification requirements are specific to Bronson South Haven roles in departments such as Emergency, Special Care, Labor & Delivery, and more.

Standards of Practice

  • Assessment & Planning: Collect and analyze patient data to assess needs and plan individualized care
  • Implementation: Deliver evidence-based interventions, medications, and treatments; focus on patient comfort and safety
  • Evaluation: Monitor and document patient outcomes; adjust care plans based on results
  • Professional Performance: Participate in quality improvement, continue professional development, and engage in teamwork and mentorship

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Ability to interpret data, communicate effectively, and maintain attention to detail for extended periods
  • May involve lifting (up to 50 lbs), assisting with heavier tasks, and standing for long periods

Special Requirements (Bronson South Haven)

  • Emergency Department, Special Care Unit, and specific departments have additional certification and training needs within specific timeframes after hire.
