Each year for the past many years, KMMBNA has worked diligently to raise funds to support our scholarship initiative. The event is each year generally in May as we acknowledge "National Nurses Week" and month. The location is the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in downtown Grand Rapids, MI. Scholarships are awarded to students attending nursing school.
Each year, three (3) to five (5) $1,000.00 scholarships are awarded during the Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner Dance Gala and Silent Auction. In addition, "Academic Support Scholarships" are awarded at Christmas time in December to assist students with items needed to succeed in school and facilitate self-esteem raising.
The Kent County, Kalamazoo-Muskegon Michigan Black Nurses Association (KMMBNA) awards nursing tuition scholarships as part of the chapter mission. A Mission to serve the, "Unserved and the Underserved." We are still experiencing a shortage of "Nurses" in various pocket of the United States all across this great country. We also have a shortage of ethnic minorities "Nurses" in various geographic locations and Grand Rapids, MI is one. Minority Nurses are underrepresented in the health care workforce. Therefore, KMMBNA is encouraging more minorities to pursue a career in nursing as well as individuals in general.
With the support of our Honorary Co-Chairs, Chapter Members, the Community , Corporate Partners, individuals, families, churches, and God's Blessings, KMMBNA has awarded over $55,000.00 to students pursuing a career as Registered Nurses (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurses ( LPN), advanced degrees in nursing and more.
Note a few of the achievements:
